Graphics Interchange Format
What is GIF?
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is one of the oldest image formats still in wide use. It supports animation and basic transparency, making it the original format for animated web content and memes. GIF uses lossless compression but is limited to a palette of 256 colors, which makes it unsuitable for photographs but excellent for simple graphics and short animations.
